Automobile Business Association of Japan (ABAJ) was established on 14th June, 1946, aiming at the reconstruction of the automobile industry and society itself of Japan damaged by the Second World War, and it has been grappling and contributing to the various subjects related to the progress not only of the automobile industry but also of the whole Japanese society and economy.

 

ABAJ is composed of around 180 members which are companies and associations belonging to automobile parts and body manufacturing area, sales and maintenance area, transportation area such as trucks, buses and taxis and the other areas such as car leasing and rent-a-car , petroleum, car insurance or the like including 23 provincial organizations.

 

Automobile industry plays a very important role as a key industry of Japan, which is shown by the following facts that the number of workers who have something to do with automobile industry occupies 8% of overall workers in Japan and at the same time the production value of motor vehicles occupies 17% of all production value, and peoples' life owes a good deal to transportation by vehicles such as foods, cloths, machineries, persons etc.

 

From the worldwide point of view, it is undeniable that automobile industry is facing such problems as global warming, air pollution, energy saving, recycling, traffic safety and so on. Japanese automobile industry will positively take measures more than before not only against these important and urgent problems but also such matters as globalization, aging society, road traffic and construction, IT, automobile related tax from the standpoint of car users.

 

Through the committee activities, ABAJ, representing automobile industries, has been and is proposing opinions concerning especially automobile user-related matters such as political, economical, environmental and social problems to the parliament and central and provincial government.
